Salt and Light

¹³ “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. ¹⁴ “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. ¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

In my daughter Emma's room we created a mobile with little stars and moons that glow when you turn the lights out. It may sound corny but it's actually pretty cool when you turn off the lights and lay on your back looking up ....into the night sky!

However, the stars and moons will only produce light for a few minutes and then they disappear into the darkness. In order for them to glow again all you have to do is expose them to the light. Also, the closer they are to the light source the brighter they will glow!

This is where my mind begins to think about how many of us have allowed our light to fade away and we've disappeared into darkness. In my own life I experience times when I feel as if I'm letting my light shine everywhere I go and in all my endeavors. There are also times when I remove myself from the light source (Jesus) and my light begins to fade! Dumb thing to do right!

Our lives in Christ should be like that town built on a hill whose light cannot be hidden! When we remain close to the source, our lives will light up the darkness and all the world will see our deeds and ultimately we will bring glory to God!(as in verse 16)

Problem: Light Fading
Solution: Stay close to the source!!!

Just a note to say that I felt a sweet spirit of worship on Sunday morning. During the song "Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone" I had the feeling that the church as a whole was engaged in worship of our Lord!
